Vancouver Activities

There are many, many activities in Vancouver. You will never tire of all the Vancouver activities. Few cities offer boating, skiing and wilderness trails on their doorstep and everyone in Vancouver takes to play like ducks to water.
First off, there are the beaches which virtually surround Vancouver. Downtown, Stanley Park has numerous sandy shores and English Bay is a favorite place to stroll, buy popcorn from the beachside cart, take lunch on one of the washed up logs and people watch the body builders, wind surfers and yachters.

Vancouver Activities:

Biking- Vancouver Activities
Vancouver takes its biking seriously. Special pathways for people-powered wheels weave throughout the city in addition to mountain bike trails on the North Shore Mountains, and less strenuous trails along the dykes in Richmond. The 5.5 mile Stanley Park Seawall is a must, as is the 9 mile seaside route leading from False Creek, through Granville Island and on to Vanier Park. Wearing safety helmets in mandatory in British Columbia. Vancouver Activities.

Boating: Vancouver Activities
One in four families in British Columbia own a boat, kayak or canoe so private clubs are jammed, sailor folk are the norm and charters and rentals proliferate. Whether it's paddling up the placid waters of Burrard Inlet, sailing island protected waters, or launching into the open sea, sailing here offers something for young tars and old salts. Vancouver Activities.

Fishing: Vancouver Activities
The waters of the Fraser River, around Point Grey and into Burrard Inlet are popular for year-round salmon and ground fishing. Vancouver is the gateway to the major fly-in destinations scattered along the coast where pristine lakes offer some of the most dynamic fly-fishing experiences in the world. Vancouver Activities.

Golf: Vancouver Activities
Golf is a huge activity in Vancouver. Because golf can be played virtually year round, demand for quality courses is precipitating exponential growth. PGA and other fine courses are scattered throughout the Lower Mainland including one at the University of British Columbia. Vancouver Activities.

Hiking: Vancouver Activities
Throughout Vancouver, you'll find cityscapes and great escapes where your own footsteps do it best. Stanley Park and Pacific Spirit Regional Park near the University of British Columbia offer everything from nature trails to beach views. The 'coolest' hike in town is the Grouse Grind, a 2 mile vertical ascent up Grouse Mountain through Douglas Fir & Western Hemlock forest. Vancouver Activities.

Skiing/Snow Boarding: Vancouver Activities
The three north shore mountains -Grouse, Cypress and Seymour are open December to March and further a field, is Whistler Resort. All are family mountains although Grouse has the most amenities including equipment rentals and a snow school. Vancouver Activities.

Swimming: Vancouver Activities
Beach swimming is popular and at English Bay and Stanley Park, life guards are usually on duty. Watch for the red flags; they indicate stormy currents and swimming is prohibited. For year round swimming, there's a good-sized public pool at the University of British Columbia and the impressive Vancouver Aquatic Centre under the Burrard Street Bridge. Vancouver Activities.
